Environmental Pollutants - Teflon

Teflon is an artificially-produced, non-stick coating used on cookware. It has been used for decades by American consumers in place of butter and margarine to ensure food does not stick to pans, skillets, and other cooking surfaces. The final product is, for the most part, considered safe for use.

However, recent findings have linked a chemical used in the production of teflon to both cancer and birth defects. The chemical in question is perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA, and is most prevalent during the manufacturing process of teflon. DuPont, the creators of teflon, have already settled a $300 million dollar lawsuit with factory employees and the facility's surrounding neighborhoods. PFOA was found in the community's water supply, affecting more than 12,000 people.

DuPont was aware of Teflon's toxic properties as early as 1981. However, it voluntarily withheld information from the public in order to retain profit from its highly lucrative product. PFOA can still reveal itself to a consumer under certain circumstances and should be taken into account when a new mother encounters birth defects. A concerned teflon birth defects lawyer can help you understand your legal rights if you are placed in such a situation.

If you or a loved one has suffered an injury, illness or death, as the result of an environmental pollutant, such as teflon, and you believe the exposure was someone else's fault, call VanDerGinst Law at 1-866-843-7367 or click here for a FREE online case evaluation. The initial consultation is free of charge. If we agree to handle your teflon case, we will work on a contingency fee basis, which means we get paid for our services only if, and when, there is a money recovery for you. In many cases a teflon lawsuit must be filed before an applicable expiration date, known as a statute of limitations. Please call right away to ensure that you do not waive your right to possible compensation.
